We read the Wayback Machine to see how many years the domain was in use, and we flag archived titles that show spam, gambling or takeover content, or a site that was not in English. Is GoDaddy’s domain appraisal accurate?
It is an automated estimate based on patterns in past sales. It can be a helpful first signal, but it does not check history, backlinks or trademark risk, so real sale prices often differ.

Age alone is not a ranking factor, but older domains more often have clean history, backlinks and type-in traffic, which buyers value.
Which domain extension is most valuable?
.com, followed by strong tech extensions like .ai and .io. Country codes and newer extensions usually sell for less.
How do you check a domain’s history?
We read its Wayback Machine archive: the years it was in use and the titles and language of archived pages. Spam, gambling, adult or foreign-language takeovers are the most common reasons an expired domain is worth less than its metrics suggest.
